Sid Spurgeon spent over three decades teaching in Oregon high schools (1973-2006). He graduated from Washington State University in 1971 with a BA in History.
Before teaching, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service—three years on a fire suppression crew and four seasons as a smokejumper.
